Time to retire Corkscrew

Wasn't CP's Corkscrew the first coaster to have inversions over a midway too? That record alone would be a good reason not to scrap it.

It's interesting to think though that it only cost $1.75 million to build back in '76, wonder what we could get for $1.75 million today?

I personally think it's got some nice air time and is a heck of alot better than Valleyfair's version. I question if that coaster has EVER been worked on.... *sheesh* (e shudders at the memory of riding it)

Put some cheesy theming on it like the Demon at SFGAm and it would be golden. :)

Most small Arrow loopers seem to stand the test of time. Corkscrew is no exception.

Get rid of Corckscrew? I have this to say: If you don't like the ride itself, it's always nice to see the ride interact with the midway. Not many parks have inversions over their paths...

Your just like this friend of mine. He doesn't give a darn about nostalgia and old landmarks. He told me he would like to see the current U.S. Capitol building demolished and have new one built that is highly modern and contemperary.

Preserving our history is one of the most important things people should do. Not only does this go for Cedar Point, but it goes for historical structures and items all throughout the country. Like Independence Hall in Philadelphia or The Gateway Arch in St. Louis. At least those structures aren't in immenent danger of being torn. Other parts of history are being demolished as we speak. I hope the Corkscrew doesn't fall into the realm of "out with the old, and in with the new."

They should eather get rid of Corkscrew or they should completly fix it and get all of those bumps out of it.

I really didn't think the ride was all that rough the last time I rode.

Hey guys, while we're getting rid of Corkscrew, why don't we just get rid of Magnum while we're at it! It's old, a bit jerky, and rough, and there are taller rides around, so why bother with it?

Yes, even though the Corkscrew is older, it IS a classic. Saying you want to get rid of the screw is like saying you want to get rid of Magnum. They're both classics, and there are better rides around (not many in Magnum's case), but CP needs to keep them. It's not like them to get rid of a coaster, and not just because of their coaster count.

I will admit that I was one who had written off The Screw after first riding it in '00. (That was the first time I had ever been to CP) It just was too rough for me. (or so it seemed) I had been reading this thread about the back seat and the huge pop of air you get after coming off the lift and also the bunny hill before the loop. It's true folks and doubters...there is air to be had on that ride if you ride in the back seat.

Not only is the ride fun in that aspect, it's also very visually appealing. One of my best pictures of CP was taken when I was getting off the Sky Ride and there lo and behold was a perfect view into the center of the corkscrew. It was like looking down into a hurricane from an airplane. It's also neat to take video of people riding it as the go over the midway upside down. :)

Just like a Tilt-A-Whirl is a staple for a carnival, a small Arrow looper is a staple for an amusement park.

::sigh:: The Corkscrew. Nostalgia yes... but ya get off the darn thing with such a massive headache!!! (Pretty short ride too!)

I'd say to keep it because of the historical viewpoint... but just no one ride it anymore...::laugh::

I work on the corkscrew and I love it everytime I test ride. Yes its short , bumpy and it sometimes hurts but the airtime is great.And even if the adults dont like it very much you wont believe how many younger people love it... Its a great begginer roller coaster for the youngins..Yes its 26 years old.. built in 1976 and was the first american rollercoaster to go upside down 3 times.. Maybe for you 3 times isnt that big these days but to a 8 year old its the coolest thing alive.. keep the corkscrew alive!

Well, I'm afraid I have written off Corkscrew. Such a shame, as I used to like that ride. But last season the park changed the shoulder bars from the narrow ones it used to have to the wide ones it has now, which leave no space for my outboard arm. Basically they put a shoulder bar from a wide-body train onto a narrow body seat. This means it's now impossible to brace myself on the ride, and Corkscrew went from being a fun ride to a nasty body banger.

Now if Cedar Point would change back to the old style shoulder bars, or switch to a wide-body train, or otherwise make the ride a little more accommodating again, I'll be back to ride it. But as it stands right now, it's pretty much a 'oncer' for me. Which is a real crying shame for such a classic ride. :(

Maybe they could change the trains restraint system like Premiere did to their coasters (no over-the-shoulder restraints). Then I would ride it every time I come to the park.

I was very surprised when I rode it on Labor Day. I hadn't ridden corkscrew at CP in quite a while because of the roughness. My son and I rode in front (he's got long legs) and we got a much smoother ride than we've had in years, and AIRTIME

Well among other rides, Corkscrew is supposed to be getting airgates and a dispatch enable button next year. While this might be happening just so it can meet Ohio regulations or whatever for next year, the park will be dumping more money into this ride. So apparently the park still thinks the ride is worth it. :) I just wish they'd put the decals back on the trains. The front cars look so dull. But then again, that's Cedar Point's up keeping of themeing. Sigh...

I love the corkscrew, it was my first sit down complete circuit looping coaster. I've never fount it particulary rough and the new wide shoulder bars don't give me a problem.

It's one of the more scenic coasters at cedar point and better in almost all respects to that hideous insect across the lagoon ;)

CORKSCREW IS A GREAT RIDE, I have rode every ride at CP. it is a legend why would anyone want it to go. It was one of the first with any inversion. It is also a beutiful ride to look at, it makes the atmoshere at CP. It really doesnt take up any space so what is wrong with it horndog. It is a good walk on ride that gives good thrill all thoughout its 27years. THE SCREW WILL NEVER DIE IT IS A LEGEND AND IT IS CEDAR POINTS TRADEMARK!!!!

Why is it a walk on ride? why? because people do not want to have to take asprin or hope they dont snap their neck when they get off. I agree it is great that it is the first for many kids, but why not make it smoother. Sit and watch after the train hits the top of the bunny hill. What you will see is everyone's head slam the back of the head rest. Hell I was riding it before most of you where even born. They could make it like it once was.
