Time to retire Corkscrew

Blue Streak is often a walk-on too .... ask those who have ridden it this year how lousy it is.

People don't walk by because of their past experience. Outside of coaster enthusiasts, who complains about Corkscrew? The general public walks by because they're on their way to Magnum, Millennium Force, Power Tower, etc ... not because they think it's painful.

I think Walt makes a very good point. I have no clue why coaster enthusiasts complain so much about a rough ride. It's a roller coaster for christ sake! It's not supposed to be a limo ride. The very people who should have the most fun riding these things seem like they can't take a little rough and tumble action. Why? I think Corkscrew has one of the best airtime hills of any looping coaster ever built. The hill before the loop is it's signature, along with it being the first to loop three times. It is still a good ride, and I have a lot of fun riding it.

Corkscrew is a great ride. Its quick, and it has nice inversions... especially for an Arrow. I think its aged quite well. I do think that the 'Screw is an aquired taste. Sure, its not record-breaking now, but imagine how people lined up for it in years past. Classic I tell you. Everyone who wants it gone is spoiled by B&M and Intamin. I say, wait till you see how those coasters age and then compare. :)

All you have to do is look at the queues to realize how popular Corkscrew, and many of the other rides were in their "day". I remember waiting an hour to ride Corkscrew. I remember waiting longer than that for Gemini and Mean Streak. Now these rides are virtual walk ons except on the busiest of days.

I suppose I should admit I haven't boarded CP's Corkscrew since I don't know when. When you have an Arrow coaster in your backyard with the same name, you just ignore it and ride the other stuff. Same goes for CP's PT.

While we get rid of Corkscrew, let's get rid of Mantis (it bangs around too much), Mean Streak (it's too rough), Wicked Twister (It doesn't run full power all the time), Magnum (It breaks down every once in a while), Millennium Force (It had a problem with the elevator lift), Raptor (It has too much bird crap on it), CCMR (It's tooooo slow), Disaster Transport (It's uh....boring), Wildcat (We could make tons of pop cans with the supports and charge 3 bucks for them), Woodstock Express (Come on! My grandma can drive faster than that), Jr. Gemini (My grandma can walk faster than that), Gemini (The final turn is rough), Iron Dragon (They took out the trees for the new ride so it's gonna suck), Power Tower (It's noisy and we could put a 800 foot coaster in it's place), and finally Blue Streak (That things older than my grandma!).

So you see kids, we should just start over. No one on the face of the earth likes any of these rides. We just need a ton of mega loopers and 1000 foot tall coasters. Who needs to warm up on the smaller coasters?!! We're all hard asses, right?

And I still highly suggest to try riding the Corkscrew in the very last seat if you havn't. Then come on here and complain about it. I still think it has incredible airtime and it is alot smoother in the back than in the front.

Out of the 15 different people I have traveled to CP with this year, not one wanted to ride Corkscrew. Mind you 3 have never even been to CP. I guess you could say I was the only so called "enthusiast" out of the group. That tells you something. It's lame. Even to people who haven't been on it. I haven't been on it in over 5 years and don't plan on boarding it again. The only thing I like is the screw over the midway and how when I see it, I say "Now that is CP"

I believe the Corkscrew is a great ride for younger kids to go upside-down for the first time. My youngest sister is 8 and she has been scared of rides for years. She loves the Iron Dragon, but I have been able to get her on some other rides. Usually she's a two rides on iron dragon, the train, and peanuts playground type of person. But this summer she finally rode Blue Streak, Wildcat, and Disaster Transport. I was very proud of her, but then she wanted to try the corkscrew. She had never been upside-down before and she was nervous when we were going up the hill. After it was over, she laughed so hard and loved it. I ended up riding it three more times with her. So you see, the corkscrew was her first upside-down ever and now she wants to try things like Raptor too because that goes upside down. It's a great starter for any kid and yes, we may think it's a short ride, but for an 8 year old kid, it's the tallest, fastest, and scariest things they have ever ridden and yes, she has gone back to school and bragged to her friends about riding it and she feels like she has conquered the world. Good job Corkscrew. You made me and my sister very happy.

Yes, I am very impressed with how much kids are learning in kindergarden these days.
