What's wrong with the Midway Market?

JuggaLotus's avatar

Wow, somebody doesn't like being called out on what he said.

Madrid - those places do have cooks (trust me, it doesn't take much to be a cook). What you want is a place that has a chef. He may delegate his work to the cooks, but he's the one who developed the dishes in the first place, not some corporate bean counter.

Seriously Jeff. You of all people should know I was just throwing a couple of names out there to make a point. We've been here doing this for a while now and would've expected you to pick up on that.

So you think I have poor taste because I might happen to like Applebees and you don't ?? That's a bit harsh isn't it ? Come on man, you're better than that !

Not trying to be toxic or sarcastic guy. I stand my ground just like you do whenever someone flames or throws you a dig. Or at the very least, is doing nothing more than being a little smart ass when you're just trying to reasonably discuss something.

He's not the only one that doesn't like Applebees. Like I said before, it's an acceptable place to eat, but I wouldn't call it amazing. When it comes to the those kinds of chain sit-down burger/fries/everything kind of places, it's certainly not anywhere near the best.

I highly recommend to anyone in the Akron/Canton area, to give 91 wood fired oven a try. www.91oven.com. Their pan-seared scallops with smoked gouda risotto is the best meal I've ever had in Ohio.

Yep. 91 is great... I live 3 minutes from it.

Like I said so is Luigis, or Sylvesters, or any other place like those.

You said the magic words. Pan-seared scallops and risotto! Looks like I will be making a side trip on one of my trips to the Point this year.

Sure, the service might not be the greatest. And sure, the food is probably not the best in the world. But I think sometimes our expectations can be a little too high and unreasonable.

Sounds very much to me like your expectations are low and you're making excuses for poor service and food. Your excuse that there are no other options isn't valid either. You do have other options, you just prefer to indulge the park and pay an arm and a leg for crappy food.

You want to do that fine, your choice, but no one is putting words in your mouth. You said it.

Oh here we go again with that what I said garbage. You guys are reading something into it that just isn't there. Get this through your head. My expectations are NOT low and I'm NOT making excuses for anything or anybody. I just don't pis and moan and cry and whine about every single little thing. News flash pal ... This is an imperfect world.

The poor service and crappy food is nothing more than your or others opinion, Period ! My opinion happens to be that for an amusement park, the MM is acceptable, if not pretty decent. Now does that spell it out for you ? Is that computing ? And yes I will continue to indulge there as long as I enjoy it because as far as your other options go, your getting raped all over the park, so I might as well get my moneys worth. That's the beauty of America.

We need to remember that this is not Red Lobster or Applebees were talking about here.

I actually laughed out loud when I read that. Try eating at arestaurant that has a cook and not a guy that takes the food out of thefreezer and like Jeff said deep fries it or microwaves it. You don'thave to go to Chez Francios but check out your local Italian joint next time instead of the Olive Garden or find the nearest family ownedDeli for lunch instead of going to Subway and you'll start to figure itout.

You see. Those are just the type of spicy remarks I'm talking about !

Ummm .. OK there dude. Try proof reading your posts !

I appreciate the advice and will definitely take up that suggestion. Especially since I seem to have no idea what a good restaurant is or what good food tastes like.

Not if you think Midway Market is anything near a good value, no you don't know what a good restaurant or good food is.

Once again, thats your opinion. I guess that makes you right and me wrong then. Just how good do you think the place is ever going to be ?

See, there's a standard to base one's opinion from here is the issue. I guess if you've never really experienced decent food then you have a poor base to judge from.

Instead of everyone criticizing the poor guy for liking MM, maybe we should just feel bad that he hasn't actually had decent food.

You should in no way take that as caustic, Stew, it's all in good fun. Enjoy your MM while they hold your scrotum.

Ride on, MrScott!

So just to recap this and get a better understanding of what I've learned here today. Even though the MM is all you can eat and drink for around 15 bucks. Even though there's a pretty good varity to choose from, including dessert. And even though you're going to pay close to that for a slice of pizza, fries and a drink anywhere else in the park. It's not a good value at all, and the place should burn down because the food is so terribly horrible along with the service. Alrighty then. I think I'm finally starting to grasp it. Maybe if we all complain enough, we'll get that 5 star restaurant that everyones so "starved" for !

Nice ! That made me laugh. No caustic taken. Going to go trim now so it's presentable for them.

The food in general at the park sucks in all 3 areas (price, service, quality). There are a handful of places worth eating at though where those 3 are above average for Cedar Point. MM is not one of those places, it ranks toward the bottom in all 3 categories.

And they would be ?

I wouldn't mind so much if I didn't have such a powerful appetite. I love to eat and a buffet like MM is just screaming for me to punish it. If there's something better in the park, then point the way. I've been going to CP since 1983 and I know there are things that I still havn't tried or done yet.

If you want good chef run restaurants in northern Ohio check out the Cleveland Independents. That said, Applebee's has decent bar food, Midway Market is fine for a buffet restaurant similar to Hometown or Ryan's. The food fits to the type of place it is, don't expect anything over generic cafeteria type food and you will not be disappointed.

It is not necessary to display all the hate and sarcasm over a simple discussion of what people may like. If someone likes something, all the hate and ridicule coming from someone else is not going to do anything constructive. To each their own, live and let live.

I've been know to go out in Cleveland and easily spend $150 for dinner, drinks and tip for two people. I can also walk into Midway Market and pig out at the buffet and walk away satisfied. It is simply about not setting your expectations above what can be delivered. Let's all practice some tolerance and diversity.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

If I were to eat at midway market, I would not be able to ride MF becuase I would be too fat. Better stick to my Cheese on a stick diet. I agree with Jeff, Applebees sucks.

Shoot the rapids, tame and dry. Thunder Canyon, wet and laughter. Snake River Falls, soaked and smiling. White Water Landing and the old shoot the rapids, Fun and missed.
